Research Projects

My current research is  committed to the application of digital tools for Spanish literary analysis. I am conducting a large scale metadata investigation of publishing networks in early modern Spain through the study of festival books. My project explores the role of seventeenth-century Spanish universities in shaping cultural practices via the organization, funding and staging of elaborate festivals endorsing monarchical and church interests. I contend that the publication of the festival book was the most important and final step in this cultural ritual. Printing of the account ensured the dissemination of sponsor’s political agenda via the text’s circulation within the empire and its colonies.
